Poetry

Witness pages for what the soul survived, named in language. When it hurts, write it out. Put a pen in it.

Ink-stained papers and soft light on a writing table
Poetry as record, refuge, and return.

Poem

Duality

The inner and the outer do not align.
Who we are changes over the passage of time.

We stumble through life trying to make sense.
We try to find a place of peace, as we recompense.

Trying to find meaning in life and to belong.
We want to express; we want to sing our song.

Some of us sing it proudly, paying no mind to the negative chatter.
Some of us get stunted by it, unable to put mind over matter.

Unable to express that what we really need is love,
Defeated by our own mindsets, we surrender and look above,

Exclaiming, “God! There is more than this! Where do I need to be?”
But we are not satisfied with the answers that we see.

So we cry out in frustration, time and time again,
To the God out there, not the one within.

Indeed, I can ascend.
But what will it mend?

The broken parts remain,
And nothing is the same.

The key is to understand
That the change is part of the plan.

Nothing will remain or be as it was ever again.
Resist it not; on doing this, your future will depend.

Regret serves no long-term benefit,
Resentment being its accompaniment,

Which can often lead to hate and dismay.
Harboring this in heart will lead your soul astray.

Rumination, but for a short while, may help to correct.
But for too long, it will damage you and only pain will resurrect.

Poem

Killer of Beautiful

You make prisoners out of your promises.
Make a mockery of good, intended hope.
Hang out to dry love-soaked dreams,
Ripping projections at the seams.

You kill all future planning,
And your lies are ever-spanning,
Taking anyone down who dared to believe
In your misguided lies and parodies.

A victim is anyone in the vicinity of your vexations.
From pedestal to peasant, we all feel your condemnation.
You do not hesitate nor delay the pain you impart.
Anything beautiful, anything true, you intently tear apart.

You make ground zero. You level all down,
The ones who love you with patience profound.
You make a dummy out of a dashing dame.
From her beauty you extract only shame.

You make toxic all things malevolent.
You bring an ugliness to a good intent.
You wage war against a welcoming soul,
Gridiron against the guardians of old.

There is an ocean full of tears
Cried by the ones you filled with fear.
They committed no sin but, with you, made many an error.
In giving you their trust, they unleashed your terror.

No mercy did you give, nor lend, nor even feign,
Attempting to destroy every fruit, uplifting the obscene.
We shall become dust, but you shall not have the glory.
You will be erased in every thought and memory.

You are less than significant, and so
Your existence will be something unseen and unknown.

But what am I, and who, to even try to foresee
The way God will deal with you? It is a mystery to me.
It is said He has mercy on souls; we are His perfect creation.
But you are not such, therefore may it burn at your deserved desecration.

Restoration Note

Inner Seeded

Despite the pain, she planted seeds for a better tomorrow, for an unforeseeable time far removed from her present tragedy.

Some lesson, some thing, had to come from this. She knew the hurt and the betrayal would not burn within her forever. She realized that maybe she could rise above it.

Realizing she was marred and forever changed, she accepted it. She allowed Scripture to speak to her and reveal the great truth. She was convicted and corrected. Bearing her own cross, she forged on.

She allowed no past conditioning or self-deprecating thought through. She came apart willingly in order to come together, as she should have always been. Radiant. She expanded.

She was a beautiful giant, bigger than the betrayal, bigger than the abuse. All things were for her greater good. This was the truth. No matter what would happen in life, she carried this truth always.
